Terbinafine is used for treating certain fungal infections of the fingernails or toenails. Terbinafine is an antifungal agent. It works by killing sensitive fungi.

How to take

Take Terbinafine by mouth with or without food. Take all of the Terbinafine that has been prescribed for you even if you begin to feel better. The symptoms may begin to improve before the infection is completely treated. It may take several months to cure a fingernail or toenail infection.

Side effects

Check with your doctor if any of these most common side effects persist or become bothersome:

  • Diarrhea
  • feeling of fullness

  • Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing or swallowing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, throat, or tongue; unusual hoarseness; swollen lymph glands)

Do not take Terbinafine without first talking to your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it, liver disease, kidney disease, problems with your immune system, or blood problems.

It is absolutely critical that you take Terbinafine as it has been prescribed to you by your physician, even if you are starting to feel better. The symptoms may begin to improve before the infection is completely treated.

Notify your doctor immediately if you develop nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual fatigue, loss of appetite, yellow skin or eyes, itching, dark urine, or clay colored stools. These symptoms may be early signs of liver damage.
