Uses

Generic Cordarone (Amiodarone) is an antiarrhythmic medication that is made to restore healthy heart function for people with serious heart rhythm disorders related to the ventricles. Generic Cordarone works to improve the passage of blood from the lower chambers out of the heart.

Generic Cordarone is most often used to treat ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. Generic Cordarone is only intended for severe, life-threatening heart conditions. Consult your doctor before taking Generic Cordarone for either above mentioned conditions, or alternative uses.

How to take

It is recommended to have your first dosage of Generic Cordarone administered in a hospital or by a doctor to monitor the effects of this medication on your heart, and reduce the severity of serious life threatening side effects.

Take Generic Cordarone with a full glass of water. Each dose of Generic Cordarone should be taken at a regularly scheduled time. You may take Generic Cordarone with or without food. Contact your doctor for the precise instructions that apply to you.

Taking Generic Cordarone may affect the condition of your blood, liver, eyes and chest. Many patients are advised to schedule doctor's visits while taking Generic Benicar to monitor their blood levels and the effectiveness of this treatment.

Inform your doctor and surgeon that you are taking Generic Cordarone before you go in for any surgical procedure or medical test. Do not stop taking this medication without first speaking to your doctor, as suddenly halting treatment may worsen your condition.

Side effects

Always read the ingredients before taking this or any other medication to ensure that there are no elements that may elicit an allergic reaction. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following side-effects associated with an allergic reaction: hives, shortness of breath, swelling of the lips, tongue, throat or face.

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following serious side effects:

  • accelerated or decelerated heart rate, further irregular heart rate, fatigue,
  • fainting spells, shortness of breath, neck swelling, rapid weight gain, weight loss,
  • loss of appetite, vision impairment, thinning hair, irregular menstrual periods,
  • increased perspiration, pain behind the eyes, coughing, coughing up blood, chest pain,
  • nausea, stomach pain, fever, dark or discolored urine or stool, or jaundice.

Less serious side effects associated with Generic Cordarone include:

  • fatigue, dizziness, sleep paralysis, nausea, vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite, stomach aches, disorientation, warm feeling or the skin, tingling, skin flushing or general weakness.

Additional side-effects may result from taking this medication. Consult a medical profession before taking this or any other medication.

Precaution

Always read the ingredients before taking this or any other medication to ensure that there are no elements that may elicit an allergic reaction.

Generic Cordarone is only intended for severe, life-threatening heart conditions. Do not take Generic Cordarone if you have a history of slow heart beats that result in fainting spells, or heart conditions related to AV block (unless you are outfitted with a pacemaker).

Before taking Generic Cordarone, consult your doctor if you have a history of any of the following medical conditions:
High or low blood pressure, kidney disease, liver problems, lung disorders, asthma, vision impairments, electrolyte imbalance, thyroid disorder or if you are wearing a pacemaker or defibrillator in your chest.

Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant before taking this medication. Do not use Generic Cordarone if you are breastfeeding. Contact your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment. It is recommended to use effective birth control while taking this mediation.

Drug interactions

Always read the ingredients before taking this or any other medication to ensure that there are no elements that may elicit an allergic reaction. Do not take Generic Cordarone if you are allergic to iodine or amiodarone.

Contact your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications before adding Generic Cordarone to your treatment plan:

  • medicine to treat heart or blood pressure, any heart rhythm medications, any antidepressants, any antibiotics, any orally administered diabetes or insulin drugs, blood thinners (including warfarin), St. John's wort, diuretics (water pills), any narcotic pain medication, HIV/AIDS treatments, any antifungal medicines, beta-blockers, medicine to lower cholesterol, seizure medicine, loratadine, cimetidine diclofenac, cyclosporine, digoxin, clopidogrel, dextromethorphan


Always inform your doctor of any medications you are taking (including vitamins, herbal supplements, and over the counter medications) before embarking on a new treatment. Additional medications not listen here may interact negatively with your medication.

Missed dose

Do not take more than your recommended dosage. Take missed doses as soon as you remember unless it is nearly time for your next treatment.

Storage

Store Generic Cordarone in a cool, dry place away from heat and moisture. Dispose of any unused medication past the point of expiry. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
